Role overview

The Role

As a result of the expansion of their Continuous Improvement Ream, Renewi are looking to recruit a Continuous Improvement Specialist to be based at Wakefield. This role is a great opportunity for an experienced Continuous Improvement Specialist to own the delivery of the overall site CI improvement plan. The position will focus more on the application of Lean tools and Lean thinking, however the successful candidate will also be expected to have an understanding of how to use statistical data (Identify trends, Identifying process variation, Correlation & Regression as examples) 

  • Participate in defining and own the delivery of the annual site improvement plan, helping define the opportunity pipeline, showing a passion for controlled improvement in all areas
  • Use simple site metrics to define base positions, track and report on project progress and define whether projects have been successful
  • Build and deliver training course as needed, to ensure the successful delivery of the site CI strategy
  • Introduce Company Standard Visual Management Tools across their area of responsibility (5S, Comm Cells, Short Interval Control for example)
  • Effectively manage projects using A3 Management technique
  • Promote and drive a Continuous Improvement culture through cross functional collaborations and a positive mindset.
  • Ensure agreed improvement projects are tracked and reported on, with variances to plan corrected, to ensure individual projects are delivered on time
  • Assist with the training and development of the site team on Lean tools and techniques
  • Reflect company values in your behaviour and decision making. Take ownership and actively promote a high standard SHEQ culture at all times.
  • Lead by example by maintaining high standards of behaviour and technical excellence and be prepared to take “hands on action” where appropriate
  • Be instrumental in promoting and delivering a cultural change programme across your areas of responsibility
  • Help communicate best practice and lessons learned across the whole UK business
  • Based mostly out of our Wakefield sites, the successful candidate will also be expected to support other contracts for 20% of their time

    Skills and Experience Required

    The successful CI Specialist will have:

  • Green Belt (or similar ‘Lean’ course) qualified
  • Good understanding of Lean tools and techniques
  • Understanding of statistical tools and techniques
  • Methodical approach to problems
  • Demonstrate a drive to continuously review and improve processes.
  • Experience of leading and owning improvement projects in a manufacturing or similar environment
  • Experience of making data led decisions, using data to track and validate improvement value
  • Led training and development workshops or sessions for operators / end users
  • Able to work within multi-function teams
  • Prioritise workloads and conflicting pressures on personal time and resource
  • Able to work effectively in a waste processing and recycling environment
  • Looking to progress and develop their career
  • Ability to work in other UK locations; role will require some travel / working in other UK locations and potential overnight stays
  • Self starter / self motivated
  • Preferable Experience (not essential)

  • Black belt qualification
  • Ability to identify value / financial opportunities in processes
  • Previous experience leading / managing project performance reviews with site teams (i.e. lead Mission Control monthly review meetings)
  • Experience of process mapping, running Kaizen events and leading improvement projects in Central Administration Functions
