We are looking for a talented and motivated graduate who wants to kick start their career with a global consultancy, working on challenging, often ground-breaking projects.

We're looking for a Graduate Minerals & Waste Technician to join our Environment Discipline based in our Southampton office.

Your Role

The exact details of the role and responsibilities will be flexible and dependent on the experience of the applicant, but may be expected to include the following:-

  • Preparing and assisting with Planning Applications, Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Permit applications for minerals and waste management developments;
  • Preparing and assisting with feasibility studies, minerals safeguarding reports, public consultations, planning policy and need reviews and post submission work including public inquiries and expert witness work;
  • Preparing and assisting with proposals and tenders for new work. Assisting with business development, client contact, market research, attending client meetings etc; and
  • This role will also involve undertaking some street cleanliness survey services which we provide to clients in the public and private sectors. These surveys consist of assessing levels of Litter, Detritus, Graffiti and Fly-posting, to assist councils in improving their street cleaning services and ensuring they are efficient and good value for money.
  • Work mainly office or home-based but may be required to work on site, or from other offices or clients' premises as required by the project. May occasionally be required to work away from home for periods.


    An understanding of the English planning and permitting system and its application and an interest in the minerals and waste industries.

    Familiarity with methods and technologies employed in quarrying and waste management, planning policy legislation & guidance affecting these sectors would be an advantage.

    First degree in Town Planning, Environmental Science or similar, sufficient to meet the academic requirements for full membership of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management.

    Would suit newly qualified graduate.

    Personal Qualities needed include:-

  • Full UK driving licence;
  • Able to work under own initiative and as part of a team;
  • Computer Literate;
  • Use of technical equipment in the field with minimum supervision;
  • Commitment to studying towards professional qualification;
  • Strong analytical, written, communication and presentation skills; and
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution would be advantageous but not essential.
