PROJECT MANAGER

Role overview:

We are currently looking for a Project Manager to join our Technology Services team on a 12-month FTC in London or Birmingham.

This Project Manager will be responsible for delivery of change projects with matrix-management responsibility of project resources from other areas of the firm and third-party suppliers as appropriate. The Project Manager will work with sponsors and other senior stakeholders across a range of business and technology functions to clearly define project scope, objectives and business benefits. The role will develop business cases and approach documents, identifying the most appropriate delivery approach based on business needs, risk, impact and cost.

The Business Change team is responsible for delivery of enterprise wide programmes and projects sponsored by the Business Operations and Finance functions. The change portfolio of work is broad in range and includes business process improvements, business transformation and technology implementations, often working with a third party supplier or solution provider.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Support the definition of project scope with the business sponsor and other key stakeholders and create plans and other key project documents as appropriate. Maintain, revise and update project documentation as required to meet changing needs and requirements and to reflect project status.
  • Manage all assigned projects on a day-to-day basis, including identifying risks, issues and dependencies and taking action to mitigate them to minimise impact on delivery.
  • Responsible for the quality of all project deliverables and performance during the life of the project.
  • Identify project resources required, agree resource allocation, assign project responsibilities and track progress. Monitor and coordinate the activities of project team members as appropriate to ensure efficient and effective completion of project tasks
  • Responsible for all project-related meetings (e.g. project team, steering group etc.) and ensuring that actions and decisions are documented and shared as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with senior stakeholders for the project and manage communication plans/effective communication with all stakeholders including regular project status updates.
  • Manage the financial aspects of the project tracking actual spend against budget and providing updates as required; ensure that any variances in spend are highlighted and corrective action is taken
  • Manage all aspects of the change activity, assessing for operational impact and readiness to include a smooth transition to business as usual, final update of project documents and capturing lessons learnt before project closure.
  • Candidate overview:

    The successful candidate will have the ability to understand and assess business and change management needs at an enterprise level and will have experience of implementing complex business change working across multiple business functions, teams and geographies.

    Key skills:

  • Comprehensive track record of enterprise wide project implementations with a business focus, experience of a broad range of project delivery techniques.
  • Experience managing project team members in a project delivery model where there is no direct line management responsibility; ability to influence project team members.
  • Experience of following project delivery best practices, policies, procedures and processes with ability to adapt them as appropriate to meet the specific needs of the project.
  • Experience in procurement process, selection and engagement of third-party providers and ongoing relationship management of third-party implementation partner and/or solution provider.
  • Experience of Agile methodology and project management techniques.
  • Understanding of core legal systems (such as iManage, Aderant PMS, Interaction CRM and BigHand) is preferred.
  • Legal sector or professional services experience gained in an international firm; understanding and experience of legal business processes.
