To strengthen our Musculoskeletal Group , based in Slough UK , we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of Principal Scientist .
Role overview The successful candidate will use their expertise in Bone Biology and will have the unique opportunity to apply their scientific and project leadership skills to contribute to our Skeletal Program at UCB. In this primarily lab-based role he/she will be supporting as well as leading or co-leading various projects, target discovery and target validation approaches.
To lead/co-lead drug and/or target discovery projects
To shape/significantly input into the strategy and direction of the project
To work independently to identify, introduce, develop and apply the necessary techniques to achieve the goals of the project
To collaborate internally and externally
To demonstrate scientific rigor and excellence
To comply with Health & Safety regulations and to ensure the research is carried out in accordance with good practice and in compliance with local policies and legal requirements.
To comply with HTA regulations
PhD in Cell Biology or related discipline and significant postdoctoral experience in either Biotech or Pharma.
Experienced cell biologist with strong bone/osteoblast biology expertise
Demonstrated experience with in vivo models of bone diseases, including models of fracture healing
In vivo/ex vivo bone analysis with microCT
Experience with in vitro mineralisation assays
Extensive experience in experimental design/execution
Expertise in primary cell isolation and culture
Hands-on expertise in many aspects of in vitro biology and assay development, plate-based assays, molecular and functional end-points
Strong understanding of /experience with translational concepts and approaches in bone/skeletal biology
Project leadership experience
Expertise in the role of the bone-vascular axis
Experience with the analysis of patient-derived tissues
Stem cell experience (iPSCs, MSCs)
Experience with immunohistochemistry and imaging techniques
Molecular biology skills (RNA and protein analyses)
Comfortable working in an agile and team-oriented matrix environment, communicating with colleagues across functions and disciplines.
