Able to set the vision, and translate business strategy into operational and technology change, that as a consequence enables the creation of new innovative products while achieving business efficiencies at scale. We have invested heavily in recent years to establish data as the core of our business, we’re using it to enable our Product and content teams to enhance our USP, producing compelling and insightful betting related content and services that engage, inspire and delight our customers across different sports and territories. Accelerating this is the main objective for this role. You will require an astute ability to listen, understand and interpret the desired outcomes from the different product teams across the business and turn those into a clear vision and set of priorities for the iterative development of our data capabilities.
What you will be expected to do
Our data at present is a decentralized collection of sources and platforms that ingest, cleanse and store Sports data. You will be required to act as custodian for the management of our data and set the direction for how the platform will evolve, with the goal to increase our efficiency of content production and pace-to-market of our data driven products across the product portfolio.
Leveraging your experience of delivering impact at scale with products and services, you will unite a multi-disciplined team. Working closely with our Program Lead and Technical Architect, you will shape the ‘Why’ and the ‘What’, in essence providing the vision and context for the data platform development teams and clearly communicating and defining the priority of jobs to be done, roadmap and end requirements. Ultimately delivering upon the strategic outcomes of our B2C, B2B, Affiliates and Print business domains.
As the data products expert you will act as the first point of contact for all data related projects and work closely with technology, business and product teams to discover and deliver robust and scalable solutions - juggling the tradeoff between long-term scalability and unlocking immediate value.
Drive the positive change and vision to remove ambiguity and consolidate a team and its data sources.
Work with senior product & business stakeholders to determine & capture the contribution that Spotlight Sports Group’s data platform makes to activate/enable the business & product objectives.
Ensure that business benefits are clearly defined, appropriately quantified and are managed through to realisation.
Advise and influence executive management throughout the business change lifecycle, ensuring that change initiatives are aligned with the strategy and enterprise architecture.
You will further evolve our product management methodology and best practices across our data organisation
Degree or equivalent qualification
A true understanding of what it means to be accountable for outcomes, driving commercial results and customer benefit, able to efficiently draw on the implications of certain decisions and make tradeoffs between cost, time and scope.
At least 5 years experience as a product manager, particularly in the area of data management, with clear examples of having developed data products or platforms in medium to large organisations
Knowledge of Data Mesh and Big Data technology domains, with hands-on experience in delivering data solutions and architectures.
An understanding of Machine Learning and its application to the automation of data management, content production and/or digital products
Experience of working with Agile and one or more of the Product Management methodologies (SVPG is ideal).
Experienced in the application of Business requirements definition & story writing ideally within the context of data cleansing, storage, interrogation.
Demonstrable expertise in driving a team to deliver great outcomes through timely and consistent production of data outputs, thus a passion for engaging and understanding internal customers and their data needs.
An innovative nature with a track record in the generation and execution of new ideas
An appreciation of data science and the opportunities it presents a content business
Able to demonstrate empathy and good listening skills to understand needs/pain points of customers and stakeholders (internal and external)
Good leadership and consensus-building skills, and the confidence to champion customer needs and behaviours above commercial imperatives where required at director and executive level
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with excellent attention to detail, accuracy and quality.
Flexible and able to adapt quickly in a constantly evolving environment
Excellent time management skills and ability to work to and meet deadlines
Advanced experience with JIRA, Confluence, CASE Tools and G Suite products.
Highly self-motivated with a passion to succeed as an individual and as part of a team
A keen interest in, and understanding of horse racing and sport
Experience of working with Architects, Engineering and Program Leads, and data scientists to build products and/or knowledge of data science and machine learning
