Our electronics team in Cambridge provides support for our customers in projects that range from short-term prototype applications to production-level systems. Projects can encompass all vehicle electronic control systems and may include CAV applications, internal combustion engine control, electric vehicle, electric power steering, etc.

To support the continuing expansion of IDIADA activities in the UK, we are seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join the Electronics team.

This role will be based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, regular travel to customer sites and IDIADA may be required.

This position reports to the Electronics Manager and is responsible for:

  • Leading the development of the application software (in Simulink) of a variety of engine control systems
  • Supporting other vehicle applications as required
  • Providing calibration guidance to calibration teams
  • Supporting dyno and vehicle testing
  • Defining prototype level wiring harnesses
  • Supporting initial engine run up through to sign off.
  • Negotiating new projects
  • Agreeing detailed functional requirements with the customer

Desired profile

  • Degree in Systems, Software, Electronics/Electrical, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering or other technical courses with relevant content
  • A proven track record of developing internal combustion engine control algorithms, ideally both diesel and gasoline
  • A good understanding of diagnostic algorithms and protocols such as J1939
  • An ability to consider problems and identify solutions from the system level
  • MATLAB Simulink model-based development for real time applications
  • A good understanding of automotive technologies
  • A desire to work with worldwide customers to help them make their vehicles clean, efficient, safe and desirable
  • Control system calibration experience, vehicle or dyno based
  • Experience define prototype wiring harnesses (e.g. for test vehicles and dynos)
  • EV powertrain control system exposure
  • Able to anticipate, translate and develop requirements into robust solutions
  • An understanding of a formal engineering development lifecycle and agile methodologies
  • An appreciation of functional safety
  • Valid UK driving licence
