Multiskilled Laboratory Site Engineer – White City (London)

Summary:
- The Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for maintaining specialist laboratory, analytical equipment, and facility installations to support our Research & Development, Process Development and Translational team.
- They will be primarily responsible for equipment breakdown repairs & on-going maintenance work of laboratory & analytical equipment and associated utility systems.
- They will plan and complete a range of reactive & planned maintenance works associated within lab as well as supporting assessment, identification, ordering and maintaining critical spares.
- The role will predominantly be Monday to Friday, with a requirement to be part of an on call
- rota to cover out of hours emergencies & occasional weekend activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete a daily health check of equipment and monitoring systems and ensure non- compliances are reported and dealt with.
- To provide responding, diagnostics repair & improving equipment, and handing back the equipment in a safe, reliable and compliant state
- To maintain the asset care plan up to date, and ensure suppliers and contractors are booked in advance to attend site to maintain, calibrate, repair equipment.
- Planning and undertaking scheduled maintenance.
- Using manuals and failure history to develop preventative tasks.
- Maintaining and recording reactive and planned maintenance records on to the CMMS and engineering library
- Providing operator training as necessary.
- To manage contractors on site, monitor, manage and review activities and subsequent paperwork and reports an archive accordingly into the engineering library.
- Provide liaison with engineering & building management team to ensure activities are performed effectively & safely and to address equipment and facility issues that impact operations.
- To own, manage and admin assigned engineering systems.
- Provide engineering support for wider project activities within the teams.
- Provide in house cleaning, calibration, and maintenance activities for equipment (e.g flow cytometers, plate washers, incubators, fridges, freezers, pipettes, etc).
- Support engineering team in implementation and maintenance and upkeep up CMMS system.
- Operate ERP system to raise POs, req, deal with invoices when work is complete in a timely manner.
- Own identification, risk assessment and plan implementation of control measures surrounding hazardous tasks related to laboratory activities.
- Own creation, implementation and training of emergency and on-call procedures to be followed on environmental monitoring systems & LN2 generation
- Support identification and storage of required spares, consumables, and tools for activities in the laboratories
- Managing stocks of critical engineering spares and equipment.
- Provide status and look ahead reports related to laboratories and equipment as needed
- Write, review and update maintenance SOPs and one point lessons for equipment and monitoring and utility systems
- Work within the GLP requirements
- Support site projects as assigned
- Providing support to Facilities, lab operations and Capital Project Engineering as required.
- Prepare chemicals & reagents for equipment as needed.
- Other activities as assigned.
Demonstrated Skill / Competencies:
- Knowledge and expertise working with laboratory and analytical equipment in a GLP environment
- Knowledge of current standards, procedures, and controls for GxP facilities and equipment
- Experience in GLP standard quality management systems
- Knowledge and expertise in utility systems from HVAC to medical gasses etc.
- Experience of managing and performing planned preventive maintenance
- Ability to provide diagnostics and first fix capabilities on a range of equipment system
- Ability to complete FMEA, create detailed SOPs and training end users on operations of daily upkeep of laboratory equipment
- Computer literate
- CMMS experience
Experience:
- Demonstrable successful track record of 3 or more years working in biologics, GxP laboratory or other highly regulate regulated environment.
- Working in a Pharmaceutical or other heavily regulated industry.
- HVAC, compressed gases, and integrated control systems knowledge
- Operating within the requirements of a Quality Management system
- Project management experience.
- Equipment lifecycle knowledge.
- Electrical, Instrumentation and Control system experience.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of engineering or Relevant engineering degree or HNC/D with relevant experience
Skills/Specialist knowledge:
- Working with small/medium scale analytical equipment
- Pharmaceutical utility systems and controls
- BMS and EMS
- Lab operations
- Excellent communication & presentation skills, written and oral
- Computer literate - Microsoft Office suite
