JOB PURPOSE

  • Reporting to the Head of Litigation, responsible for influencing, shaping and executing all legal aspects of the consumer claims management strategy and process.
  • Leading on process and policy for decision-making on compensation for disruption events and legal challenges against easyJet as a result of operational disruption, including:
  • Engaging with senior management on company policy on EU261 compensation;
  • Managing an internal team of legal advisors, paralegals and legal assistants operating in the UK market;
  • Leading instruction of external legal counsel and business partners assisting with the process;
  • Coordinating with other departments on disruption processes, policies and procedures.
  • Setting, agreeing and managing budgets for legal elements of the customer compensation process and identifying saving opportunities.
  • Acting as subject matter expert advising on other company litigation.

    JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES 
  • People and Technical management of the UK Claims Team Managing work load and key deliverables across the team Performance reviews and personal development meetings Approval of payments to third parties to ensure the timely payment of claims Ensure that databases and systems are maintained to ensure consistency and accuracy of information relating to disruptions of flights Ensure that the precedent and evidence databases are maintained Guidance and support to the Litigation Team on correct management of claims
  • Establish and continuously improve easyJet’s claims management process and policies
  • Working with the wider legal team to maintain a strong relationship with the CAA’s consumer arm and assisting with responses to CAA questions and investigations relating to consumer matters.
  • Establishing department budget and ensuring budget limits are maintained
  • Constantly review processes to enable response to claims management companies’ bulk claims.
  • Manging the relationship with external law firms and national regulatory / enforcement bodies
  • Maintain and continuously review an independent validation process for our EU261 categorisation decisions
  • Develop an I.T case management platform to support claims handling and diary management
  • Working with the Head of Legal Operations to provide data and MI to the business on success rate in court and mediation
  • Support the commercial, operations, marketing, customer and media teams, providing legal advice on policy and regulatory matters
  • Lead the legal response in times of mass disruption and act as on-call legal representative as required as part of the crisis management team
  • Support the Commercial Legal team on other litigation matters
  • Requirements of the Role

    KEY SKILLS REQUIRED

  • A strong background running a claims management function, ideally with a primary focus on consumer claims against airlines
  • A qualified Solicitor, or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years’ PQE, to include supervisory experience
  • Volume litigation or claims experience
  • Strong people management skills, this role will manage a team of legal advisors and paralegals
  • Organised and process driven – looking for opportunities to improve ways of working
  • Self-starter and influencer
  • Confident with numerical data/ financials
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office, including Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Additional European languages highly desirable
