About us –
Gastroenterology Services have had the opportunity to move to a new unit based on Doyle and Wilson within the Trust and have new and exciting opportunities for learning and development.
We are a 28 inpatient, mixed sex ward which consists of 4 bays and 8 side rooms, with 4 elective admissions throughout the week.
Within the team, we operate as part of an extended MDT team. We have Specialist nurses in all areas of gastroenterology including IBD, HPB, Nutrition and Hepatology, who are based on the unit and in reach. We also have an alcohol care team who deliver a 7 day service and have regular input from Social Workers, Physiotherapists, Dietitians, Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists.
Locally known as A9, Gastroenterology is now based on Doyle and Wilson wards and consists of 14 Consultants, all specialising in different conditions and work on a rota covering the ward. Due to our vast amount of Consultants and their specialist knowledge in different fields, we are fortunate to deliver a consultant led inpatient service 7 days a week.
This optimizes patient’s care allowing them to be treated in a timely manner and promote patient flow. We feel that this enables staff to feel confident that the patients receive the best possible care.
