Planet Forward have recently been engaged by an established brand in the Aerospace/Defence domain. This fantastic business is looking to secure an Enigneering Manager / Systems Engineering Manager (Engineering/Avionics) on a 12 month contract near Wokingham.
Job Summary:
With a focus on tactical and airborne integration programs, the Project Manager will act as the responsible party for allocated bids and programs. The Project Manager will work with the team to enable verify technical direction and delivery to cost, schedule, and quality.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated background in Project Management, with knowledge of Avionics (Communication, Navigation, Flight Management Systems, Displays, etc.). Other related domain experience will be considered. Experience covering the whole systems engineering lifecycle including platform integration and certification, is desirable.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical leadership and project management of the design development activities, within the guidelines set by the Program Manager and Customer; provide support to bids and proposals, leading the delivery of engineering artefacts and ensuring engineering process is adhered to; lead the allocated engineers, ensuring engineering deliverables associated with programme/bid delivery are on time and are of the required quality; have excellent communication skills and work effectively with internal and external customers, across multiple time zones; and provide engineering support to programme management and subcontracts teams to enable effective subcontract management.
Key Accountabilities:
* Create and execute multi-disciplinary development plans. Organise the team to ensure achievement of the goals.
* Provide technical direction and guidance to team – Work with the team to identify and agree best technical direction.
* Project Performance Monitoring - Use tools provided to report status (technical, financial and quality), making changes required to ensure tasks performed within allocated/agreed budget.
* Subcontractor Management - Work closely with subcontractors, as part of the wider team, to ensure key milestones and technical maturity is achieved.
* Process - Work with the team to ensure that work undertaken conforms to company process requirements
* Change Management - Work with the team to ensure Change Management is performed in line with the company process.
* Take responsibility for the quality of the deliverables produced, and display an ability to use best practices to support that. Participate in and drive design reviews, displaying an openness to improve the quality of work produced throughout the department.
* The Project Manager is responsible to the Program Manager (PM) for engineering cost, schedule, and performance, and takes full ownership for the quality of the delivered technical solution.
* The Project Manager is responsible to the Engineering Manager for professional conduct.
Key Skills Required:
* Engineering degree qualified in Systems Engineering, Avionics, Electronics, Computing or Telecommunications
* Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary, multi-national team in Systems Engineering, Avionics, Electronics or Telecommunications domain - Desirable
* Ability to estimate and prioritise system development activities and experience of delivering quality systems to tight timescales
* Experience of requirements analysis, design, development and acceptance - Desirable
* Experience in tracking, reporting, analysing and acting upon earned value metrics as required to understand and control program performance
* Experience in identifying and managing project risks
* Experience in leading teams though successful delivery of bids and proposals
* Excellent interpersonal skills, proven ability to work across organisations/business units
* UK Security Cleared or ability to achieve clearance
* Flexibility to work with individuals across multiple time zones
* Experienced in developing products in a Product Line and programmes environment - Desirable
* Experience in the use of industry standard project management tools (e.g. SAP MS Project) - Desirable
